J.F.Cobb & Sons - Healthy cows are happier and more productive, so we are always looking for ways to improve their wellbeing
The most important element in cow welfare is how cows are cared for. At the Cobb dairies there is a team of people taking care of the cow’s every need. The whole team is highly trained and they keep the cows fit and feeling good.
About Us

About us

We’ve been farming here in Dorset for nearly 90 years so you could say that we are part of the landscape.

Over the years our farming has evolved from traditional mixed livestock and arable enterprises into the specialist dairy farming business we have today. We now farm in a fourth generation partnership and we are committed to sustainable long-term dairy farming in the UK.

We have four guiding principles that govern everything we do:

  • We passionately care for our cows and do everything we can to pamper them
  • We look after the land
  • We are proud to produce healthy, nutritious milk
  • We want to create an interesting and enjoyable place to work
At the current time we keep cows across a range of dairy units, including some partnerships with other local farmers. Crops grown include grass, maize, wheat and barley, all of which are used to feed our cows. Our cows can be traced back many generations and we breed and rear all the female calves born on the farm to join their mothers in our milking herd. Every cow has an individual name relating to her parents.

We are committed to delivering a perfect day, everyday. What we mean by this is that in agriculture there are many variables, such as the weather. Animals like consistency so we believe that our cows should be able to enjoy the perfect day, everyday of the year, come rain, snow or shine. We want every day to be the best it can be – the best cow health, comfort and welfare; the best feed; the best environmental performance; the best quality milk – all from the best trained and well informed dairy team.

And, when it comes to our team we are fortunate to have a great group of people working with us, as well as many part time and outside contractors and industry experts, dedicating themselves to working to the highest standards. We couldn’t manage without their skill and commitment and we continue to attract new people to our team as our needs develop.

Our approach to dairy herd management is continually recognised within the agricultural industry and we have been fortunate to win a number of prestigious awards.
